Darkness Erupts

"There are wounds that never show on the body that are deeper
and more hurtful than anything that bleeds."
Laurell K. Hamilton

The gathering was of strangers and as usual, I sat observing. This group was a lovely cross section of people so diversity was rather obvious. Continuously scanning, my attention was drawn to one person in particular. As I watched, her face projected differing personalities as she worked her way through the crowd.

Observing from a distance, this presumingly accomplished person seemed to be attempting to establish connection with one and all. Her politics, religion, and view of life were not available to me, but her body language spoke volumes. It felt as though her energy was on fire, close to burning out completely.

My participation was needed elsewhere so my attention shifted. It was hours later that I entered a restroom and found this same woman, sobbing. There is only one language I know which is loving kindness. I asked for permission to give her a hug and she fell into my arms. Her identity is unknown to me as well as her trauma, but I remember her still.
