"It is only through mystery and madness
that the soul is revealed."
Thomas Moore
In a writing exercise, the administrator encouraged the participant to list things that brought them the innate sense of joy. The difference between happiness and joy was made perfectly clear explaining happiness was a trigger from what we have experienced.
Joy is a spontaneous response. It can best be seen in the faces of a young children. They experience joy by watching everything with innocence. The adult, however, tends to see things through learned behavior triggered by previous events.
Joy is best experienced when we have no attachment to the situation. It bubbles up within us like an unexpected gift. As an adult, joy may be experienced during the process of unfolding with a mystery or visions lifting our spirits whether experienced with the sun, moon or stars. Joy is the response of the soul, untainted by established patterns.
