"And it's in silence, he says, that he hears the presence of everything." Gordon Hempton, THE PAUSE
Silence is not confined to isolation in a distant desert or mountain top. Silence can be experienced by being absorbed by a painting or lost in a musical score. We can behold silence on a golf course as willingly as a walk in the woods.
Whether silence is found through meditation, yoga or prayer, it needs to find a place within the life we lead. The immediate response is "I don't have time," to which I say, "Make time." Whether it is a pause in the shower, a moment prior to starting the car or the first cup of coffee. It truly requires nothing, but awareness.
In the beginning, it may take deliberate focus to remember. When we are mindful enough, it becomes a habit we can easily slip in and out of within moments. We are not talking about investing an hour, but to zone out for a few seconds throughout the day. This silence, as we breathe, offers us a brief connection to sustain us throughout the day.
