"People are like dirt. They can either nourish you
and help you grow as a person or they can
stunt your growth and make you wilt and die."
Plato
As we develop confidence and believe our contributions to life to be worthy, we begin to shrug off the careless words of others. We no longer need to pause and question, "What did I do wrong?" Instead, we can observe that the comment has more to do with the other person.
It is freeing to easily dismiss the judgment of others when we are in touch with our own intentions, motivations, and integrity. While being aligned with our lovely selves, there is more depth to whatever we add to the earth. As long as we harm no one, our slate awaits our creative expression.
Not all outside opinions are to be ignored. Often, a person may mention a kernel of information to trigger an adjustment in our pattern. We can learn from each other through exchange and be better for it. It is a compliment when a person asks for an insight of his or her experience. Sharing can be a highly respectful gesture to advance our own growth.
