Holiday Dinner Question, Answered from my Heart

"Don't handicap your children by making their lives easy."
Robert A. Heinlein

My children and grandchildren were gathered around the holiday table when I was asked a question. It took a minute for me to realize that I was the present 'elder' and my response might be remembered over the years. What were my expectations for 2026? I paused, taking a few minutes to create a meaningful share.

Particular numbers of a year have never meant anything to me. My memory is bookmarked by the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy. These markings were followed by the deaths of my friends in Vietnam, and the return of kindred spirits from war mentally, physically and spiritually damaged.

In the years that followed, I developed a habit of staying in the moment, letting go of yesterday and expecting nothing from tomorrow. Chaos is ongoing and war never ending. But in my little corner of the world, I am filled with light holding myself accountable for honoring, accepting, and loving all peoples.
