"Burnout is a bone-tired, soul tired, heart-tired kind of exhaustion."
J. W. Pennebaker
When we monitor our lovely selves, we can gauge how much energy we have remaining whether physical, mental or spiritual. In most cases, all three are intertwined. When we disregard the inner voice begging us to slow down, we eventually, in a sense, collapse. If we would be kinder to the self, we would be kinder to others as well.
The holidays can be action packed and stretch us so thin, we do not get to appreciate circumstances as deeply as intended. Old family patterns surface through physical contact or memories surfacing. It may be an intense time to return to our spiritual links, revisiting fallen promises. Christmas can be far from Peace on Earth.
Just as we organize time for gift wrapping or baking, time must be set aside for personal reflection and rest. Sadly, it is not a 'set in stone' routine, so we must be diligent about boundaries. We have no one to blame but ourselves if our needs are not met. We have choices and must hold ourselves accountable.
