Driven Out

"When the world feels heavy, go outside."
Happy Gardens

In spite of my heaviest winter coat, wool socks and thick boots, I knew I ought not be outside. I went toboggining and ice skating as a kid, but winter was never my thing. Building snowmen with neighbors looked inviting, but I had rather stay in with book in one  hand and hot tea clutched in the other.

And yet, here I was, driven out into this brittle arctic air. Two pairs of mittens, a heavy woolen cap and my favorite old scarf gifted to me so many years ago. I pushed myself headfirst into the strong gusts of this winter wind. Surely something so extreme would freeze my brain from accepting negative chatter.

Holiday songs are filled with old vibrations, laced throughout the lyrics. I don't need sad movies or violent novels for distraction as there is enough of it being played out before my very eyes. Even the gentlest news stations trigger cracks in my heart. So, I turn to nature, trusting in the love that has always comforted me.
