Proceeding with a Stronger Connection

In THE BOOK OF AWAKENING, Mark Nepo discusses how in order for us to find our way home, we must go through a labyrinth leading into the deepest parts of our personal darkness.  Once we have been present with this darkness, we  return through the labyrinth.  This journey is successful only if we travel both ways with kindness and love.

Our lives get more complicated when we try to ignore the 'errors of our way'.  As we repress the past or overlook our current 'lesser than' actions, we cannot move forward onto a healthy way of living.  We may be aware of what is hidden in the pit of our darkness, but that is only the beginning.  Once we are aware, we must bring light to it, to truly see, love, and accept.  This is called healing.

When we carry light into our darkness, we are equipped with loving kindness for ourselves.  We console ourselves as we would any dear friend.  As we hold light, we try to see the bigger picture  and discover forgiveness for those who were involved or  for just our selves.

As light saturates the darkness, we feel the strength to take things in stride.  With the love that resides within us, we acknowledge the lessons of the past.  With kindness we gently let the darkness fade away.  As we return back into our lives, we are gentle with our selves and proceed with a stronger connection with our soul.
