"Be the light that helps others see it is what gives life its deepest significance."
Roy T. Bennett
Perhaps our first encounter with darkness is in the birth canal. Then for years afterwards, we do not have the vocabulary nor the knowledge to understand the shifting of light into darkness. For years. we are told not to be afraid of the dark. Yet, unexpectedly, someone jumps out of the darkness and screams, "BOO"!
The first implication of power may come from the childhood song, "This Little Light of Mine." For some, it became a personal chant during questionable times. Then we graduate to the teachings of the light of Christ. We learned to entertain thoughts of hope while passing through numerous shades of darkness.
Consciousness of shifting from fearing darkness to exploring it, surfaces. We realize although fearsome, there is much to be learned. With each encounter, we learn to be a little less fearful and more anticipatory of its presence. We are all capable of wearing masks and deceptive clothing, and continue to startle when someone yells, "BOO"!
