Amazing Women

"When a woman honors herself, all women
collectively move closer to becoming what
they are truly capable of."
Daily Om

Years ago, as I gathered small groups of women together, I was ecstatic to witness the progressive movement of all women.  Women aged 50 or older were attempting to break the patriarchal molds.  Women aged 30 or 40 were carving authentic guidelines  for  unlimited personal and professional discovery.

The role of the house wife and mother are now distinctively different.  No longer do they go hand by hand unless of course by choice.  Numerous women are inspiring mothers, as well as accomplishing excelled careers.

In earlier years, women set their intended careers aside to be stay at home mothers.  Their interests were tabled and actions were defined by community preferences.  As the responsibility for self no longer has gender or biased barriers, a woman might have a successful career and begin an entirely different career in retirement. Amazing what women are truly capable of!

One Stone at a Time

"There is nothing in your life that cannot be overcome;
whatever the situation or problem, there is always a solution."
Daily Om

Solutions are readily available, but we often don't like them.  The answer can be found in our thoughts, our visions, and readings.  Again, if we do not want to embrace the solution, we will catapult deeper into discord.  The key is to shift our attitude to at least try what is available before us.

We sink deeper into darkness if we do not take action.  Taking one step at a time to enlightenment, even when uncomfortable, brings us closer to resolution.  Regrettably, we project what our outcome could be, but we are not willing to apply necessary steps.

We can hold an image of best case scenario, but what appears before us in the moment can begin our process.  Mantras help to propel us forward ...   "Just for right now," or "In this moment," or "I open myself to possibilities."  The heavy laden boulders before us are best removed one stone at a time.

Choice and Intention

"... we are always free to go back and right old wrongs,
correct mistaken perceptions, heal wounds, forgive and begin anew."
DAILY OM

As we gaze back over childhood trauma, we have the opportunity to lessen the pain, by focusing on personal strengths that carried us through.  Instead of looking at what happened to us, we can look at our lovely selves and be amazed at how we carried through.

We notice negative behaviors that were once required, but now understand they are no longer needed. No longer are we a defenseless child, but a perfectly capable adult who makes healthy choices for our healing and growth.

Like a child in a sandbox, we can sift through grains of time, picking out the good that is supportive and reflective of our true nature.   To hang on to what is no more, prevents us from propelling into the richness and beauty of life God intended.

Remove Restrictions

"By removing restrictions, even for a day,  we allow
ourselves to make new choices about what we want
to include into our life experiences."
Daily Om

Repeated behavior leads us to be contained in our thoughts and deeds.  We react on automatic pilot, rather than viewing a crisp action, feeling a new sensation, or expanding a belief system.  If life seems dull or boring, it is time to adjust our lenses and shift our focus.

It may be time to replace old activities with attention to brightening our home, lifting our thoughts, or seeing new aspects of friendship.  When we take people, places. and things for granted, we are in a sheltered position, missing the new life in others.

As we expand our awareness, we may discover a class at the community college on photography or music that awakens a desire within us.  At a gathering, there may be an individual that has continuously peaked our curiosity, but we have never met, until now.  Recall a trail or greenway that looks so inviting, but we limit our selves to circling our neighborhood.  Start something new and follow through!

Exposing the Self

"Every person we meet can effect us profoundly, just as
every situation we find ourselves in can teach us something new."
Daily Om

It is not an uncommon story for an average person to accidentally form a relationship with someone for a length of time prior to realizing his or her impact upon our society or world.  Artists, scientists, and musicians frequently go unrecognized, as they too want to be accepted just as a human being.

There is great joy for a musician to sit anonymously in a train station or a busy street corner to publicly share his or her passion.  There is joy in releasing specific love out into unknown.  An author, unrecognized, finds great freedom in sharing thoughts without worry of quotations or sentence alignment.

Inspiration comes from the heart and we share our authentic self with others, a gift is exchanged.  Without 'sir' names or identification, one can truly be honest and impact the life of one other, never knowing the gift until moments, minutes or years later.

Perform Feats of Accomplishment

We are capable of performing feats of accomplishment
when we acknowledge the importance of our individual duties.
Daily Om

Children of my generation were taught to be 'seen and not heard'.  We attended activities that our parents arranged and our time was endlessly spent outdoors playing hopscotch or hide and seek.  Idle hours were filled with imaginative play.

Our future lives were often dictated for boys to enter the family business or for girls, to focus on cooking, raising babies, and absolute devotion to a husband.  There was little emphasis on authentic self, personal dreams or yearning to be out in the world.

It is no wonder there is such difficulty for women to shed the feelings of being selfish if they choose a career or to not have children.  Stepping out of the kitchen and from under male dominance was no easy task.  Unlike young women of today, we pursued our callings later in life when our children were gone.  But we did it!  We have cut the shackles and searched productive paths to express our unique gifts and reclaim our value as an individual.  We each contribute a special aspect of our choosing.  Celebrate ... you are beautiful you!
