"For many artists the universe is expanding,
for some it is contracting."
Robert Smithson
When turbulence occurs, we want to hold ourselves accountable. We think if we had acted differently or commented less, the result would have been different. In our personal fear, we attempt to hold ourselves accountable. This offers us a false sense of control giving us hope that we can change circumstances.
When we cave in on ourselves, we become ego driven, our world grows dark, and we lose the sense of connection. Conversely, if we do not singularly own the problem, and look outside of ourselves, there is expansion and connection with others. It is as though we allow light to come in for correction.
If we utilize a spiritual practice, whether we are contracting or expanding, confidence and clarity flows. We do not feel as though we are facing our challenges by ourselves. Embracing the lesson and experiencing personal growth, the process of contraction and expansion propel us forward.
