Inquiry into the "I'

For many years, my focus was on "Who am I?" while discovering what part I was playing in the greater theater of the Universe.  My attempt to identify myself with worldly labels left me empty lacking a sense of passion.  Upon realizing all I was seeking resided within me, satisfied my yearnings and allowed me time to explore my gifts and how I was to use them.

The other day a friend remarked about the difference between helping and serving and it is a point worth sharing.  When you help someone, there is occasion to become an enabler or to become a barrier to a lesson the person needs to experience.  In serving, a person is assisting and empowering the other person.  The individual is led to a higher understanding, actualizing personal growth.  It is no longer about 'me' anymore, but it is about how Divine Spirit can best use me to serve others.

Instead of using my energy to be seeking from outside of myself, I sit filled with bliss just being connected to the radiant inner light of my soul.  This is the true home.  This stillness is the source of comfort and hope.  The whispers of the soul create vivid images of inspiration and flight.  There is no better place to be. 

The Veil

In spiritual discussions, insights and mystical moments are frequently compared to a veil being lifted.    The veil being lifted refers to the sudden ability to see or understand something within a blink of an eye. It is so fleeting, the experience cannot be put into words or be appropriately reflected.  

This uncharted spiritual experience could also be compared to a drapery being pulled aside for a clear view and then replaced back into position, blocking what one had just seen.  It happens so quickly one wonders if they have experienced it at all.

It is as though the human being experiences a spiritual moment implanting a 'knowing' into our memory, but this 'knowing' is not accompanied by the spiritual language to explain such an experience.   Deep within, we have just witnessed an explanation of an unknown, but have been left with human limitations.  This 'knowing' leaves us with a feeling of affirmation and validation increasing our faith and dedication without a tangible explanation.

Spiritual "ah-ha" moments expand our understanding and knowledge, but leave us unable to appropriately relate them to others.  If not written down to the best of our abiltiy, the exceptional experience can be quickly forgotten as though it had never happened at all.

We need to be aware to notice the veil.  Our hearts must be open to see through the parted veil.  When we allow for stillness, our body, mind, and spirit are deeply connected and we are humbly embraced by all that is ...

Dialogue with the Divine

  I am not a religious person;

I am a spiritual person.

I want to have my dialogue with the divine.

Maybe that means a tree or a rock

or a magnificent being of light

that I cannot explain.

In the heart of every person, there is a spark of the Divine.  I happen to believe that God placed light or energy inside of every thing as it was created.  So if a small glow exists in each and every person and thing, all needs to be revered ... treated with respect and honor. 

I do believe that Spirit talks to us through all objects and people.  When we look at an ocean, the beauty of it can take our breath away ... this is the language Divine speaks.  Messages are constantly being sent to us as we gaze upon the stars or glistening snow.  It is a matter of listening ... hearing the bird singing a song in the tree, feeling the sun shine on your face or feeling cleansed by a gentle rain.  Subtle, but inspiring.

It works the opposite way as well.  When I want to have a conversation with Spirit, I frequently go for a walk.  I sense the presence of God surrounding me.  The spark within me expands as I listen to a bird sing, I see a leaf float elegantly by, and a very interesting rock awaits my attention.  God is in all of these things and I feel joyfully surrounded by love, calm, and peace.  I feel totally connected with the light  in all things and know through this dialogue with the Divine, I am whole once again.

New Found Joy

When the stories of our life no longer bind us, we discover within them something greater.  We discover that within the very limitations of form, of our maleness and femaleness, of our parenthood and our childhood, of gravity on the earth and the changing of the seasons, is the freedom and harmony we have sought for so long.  Our individual life is an expression of the whole mystery, and in it we can resat in the center of the movement, the center of all worlds.

A Path with Heart:  A Guide Through the Perils and Promises of Spiritual Life



 As children, we keep things pretty simple.  Somewhere along the line we learn to complicate life with drama, addiction, and disillusion.  This may sound sinister, but these very elements are catalysts to assist in the discovery of personal meaning in life. 

Life presents a challenge and we as humans have a variety of reactions:  avoidance, denial, and other levels of complications.
If we would face lessons head on (after careful consideration) they would not necessarily grow as the old proverb indicates, 'making mountains out of mole holes." 

It is wise to do research, but often times we are simply seeking opinions of those who know less than we do.  We also ask  for input from certain people we already know will simply parrot back to us what we want to hear.  For whatever reason, we do not trust the knowledge we have within.

"To thine own self be true," is wonderful advice.  The better we know our selves, the more we trust our inner knowings, the less complicated situations will be.   We can cast off what no longer serves us and embrace the freedom of original thought. Old thoughts, past limitations, and mistakes we have made along the way are only barriers when we preserve them.  Once removed, these old restrictions no longer bind us, and in our new found joy, we can discover a more intimate connection with life and the Divine.

Finding the harmony we have sought for so long, enhances our lives and encourages us to maintain balance.  We create a stronger connection with nature or the arts enjoying the beauty of our world and the mystery of the spiritual world.  We can allow our selves to be free. 

Invitation

I throw open the door inviting spirit in, hoping to make sense of  the turmoil within.  I gaze outside and breathe the calm in,
slowing the undercurrent causing this spin. 

The churning recedes as spirit gently enters in, opening my heart for love to come in.  Too easily I forget all that I know, losing my way and forgetting to grow.

I coax my glow back into a flame and I can feel my inner fires burning strongly again.  I have so much farther to go, to plant little seeds which will sprout long after I am gone, now realizing this is the way wisdom is often passed down.

We send our prayers and ask for blessings, but too frequently forget to leave open the door for Divine Spirit to enter in.  If we extend an invitation for spirit to come and be our invited guest, our lives will be happier and filled with bliss.
