Eavesdropping

A new coffee shop opened, and I decided to give it a try. I wandered in, ordered a latte and turned to find a place where I could settle in. There was a small table just by a window that looked like a cozy place to be. I casually greeted two older geezers chatting away as I seated myself behind them.

While settling in, I started catching bits and pieces of the conversation going on behind me. These two retired guys seemed to be having a serious conversation. "He just croaked," the one man said. The other responded, "You guys were such great friends!" With sadness written across my face, I turned to face them.

These aged cronies obviously knew I had been eavesdropping. Together they drew me in with stories about how Freddy had been around for years and had so much energy he'd kept them all hopping! Both were very engaging and animated. Then they confessed ...  their friend who 'croaked' was a frog! Eavesdropping at its best!
