Sincerity that Flows

Sincerity is that which flows out of your
genuine innermost self.  Without this,
honesty is mistaken and insufficient.
It is like trying to move a boat
without an oar.

We can report with honesty, such as, "You won fair and square," but this response, although accurate, might lack sincerity.   Compliments may come our way, but the one standing out is the one expressed through inner feelings.

While going through a challenging time, I received many comments such as, "You are a strong woman" or "God doesn't give us more than we can handle."  These statements were well intentioned, but the most helpful remark came from a friend who remarked:  "I have no idea what to say to you.  I don't know what it must be like for you.  I just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you."  Those words came from authentic inner feelings and their sincerity touched my heart.

We frequently try to come up with elegant words or appropriate scriptures to encourage those being challenged.  If we would just pause to gather our feelings from deep inside, sincerity would flow outwards with lasting comfort.

Making ourselves aware of our inner most feelings not only helps others, but it helps with our own personal growth.  The next time a confidant is sharing, notice what is stirring in your heart.  Articulate what you feel and your friend will be happier for it!
