Camera

"I am a camera with its shutter open, quite passive,
recording, not thinking."
Christopher Isherwood

A detective once said that each and every witness was important to an investigation. Each person experienced the situation from a different vantage point through his or her own preconceived perception. With each interview, the investigation developed in depth and clarity from numerous viewpoints.

When we experience a situation, we depend upon previous incidents for evaluations. Too often, we forget to step back and use a new lens. With an open mind, we will perhaps see multiple explanation that either support our view or expand it. With speculation, we are open to heightened growth and understanding.

If we tightly cling to a singular impression, this may be about insecurity and the need to feel in control. Opening our mind is not simply accepting anything and everything. We still have a right to choice, but by giving consideration to a differing viewpoint allows everyone to feel both seen and heard. The result is a sliver of peace.
