Women Spring Forward

"Hebe's here. May is here!
Thomas Bailey Aldrich

In Greek mythology, Zeus and Hera were the parents of Hebe. As a goddess, she was a water bearer to the immortals. One day while serving cups of wine and nectar to the gods, she slipped and fell, exposing herself. Zeus immediately banned her and she was promptly replaced. Hebe went on to carve a significant role in mythology.

Throughout history, women have been 'branded' by men, and rarely respected for their own offerings. When women have used their voices, exposing wisdom, they have been repressed. Women could only advance by clinging to the coat tails of seemingly successful men. They were to be domesticated and silent.

Hebe has been a role model for many women who have been cast out of families, work places, and religious structures. The first day of May with new seeds planted, women spring forward towards new beginnings. Through sprouting color, soft fragrance and gentle weather, hope grows apparent in the hearts of misplaced women.
