"We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry,
and we must understand that all the threads of this tapestry
are equal in value no matter what their color."
Maya Angelou
With my passion for quilting, I made a quilt for each of my children after he or she was born. I diligently selected the material being impeccable with matching colors. Years later, when I used quilting as a means to get rid of my accumulated material, colors were never harmonious. And guess which quilts drew more attention! The oddly gathered colors.
I am the same when gathering books or making acquaintances. The more diverse the better. When entertaining, none of the silverware matches (but freshly polished), glasses do not match and no two plates are the same, to say nothing of a collection of uniquely colored napkins. I find joy in contrasts whether it is found in people, places or things.
The world is filled with diversity in languages, peoples, and cultures. There can be intrigue in learning from each other whether personally invested or not. Layers are intended to gently reflect differences and embrace hues. Complications occur when the eyes are tightly squinting out of fear, blocking the most beautifully diverse view.
