"Bravery is the capacity to perform properly
even when scared half to death."
Omar N. Bradley
Life calls us to be brave little soldiers. Dysfunction crushes and humiliates us, but we endure. Using the rush of adrenaline triggered by fear, we push forward. The scales are not balanced and we find ourselves heavy laden with burdens rarely our own. As life shatters around us, we bury within the dregs of sudden loss and sorrow.
Not wanting pity or invasive intervention, we straighten our cap and hold fast our guns. We don the uniform of success and bully our way to false triumphant victory. Time varies, but eventually we can do it no more. We strip ourselves of erroneous badges, claiming 'brave little soldier' no more.
As a veteran of our own private war, we wander back to where we were pushed or simply strayed. We reclaim our personal space, seeking who we once were. We may feel naked without our guise, but the sense of freedom propels us forward. Loving kindness becomes our shield and weapons are needed no more.
