Festering Fires

"One's anger is one's greatest enemy and
one's calmness is one's protection."
Sathya Sai Baba

With a flash, undisciplined anger flooded the body. It spread like a wild fire from head to toe. A violent rage quickly spread within. Burning red hot coals threatened sanity, while the urge to lash out teetered nearly out of control. The inner voice grew louder, whispering, "Breathe and walk away."

In days that follow, a bout with raw anger is traced back to the point when emotions ignited. A piercing of sorts dug deeply into sheltered history. Sorting through chapters of memories, original wounding is found festering. One sits with the pain while viewing accountability, shame, and frustration.

Forgiveness soothes the heart while understanding turns to compassion. The desire to never experience the pit of fire again, prompts a return to the practice of meditative calm. Accept the vulnerable place for what it is and choose to maintain a less reactive stance. Journey into healing, avoiding fire forevermore.
