"Just as a snake sheds its skin, we must
shed our past over and over again."
Gautama Buddha
Life pushes and pulls us through drama, trauma and pain resulting in a lesson to be gained. When all is complete, we sigh for our difficult challenge, but we acknowledge we are better for it. That is, until we find the same lesson circulating in our lives.
We practice our mantras, say our prayers, and spread kindness out into the world, forgetting a difficult lesson appears in various life cycles. We may not recognize the lesson as it reappears as it will be dressed differently. We think we have let go of attachments to this lesson, but when it returns, we feel the pot stirring once again.
There are many layers to learning and there is not a set pattern to our tasks. The ideal of course, is to do just a little better each time it surfaces. Maybe we can recognize it sooner, resolve it faster, or apply what we have previously grasped. This is not a punishment nor a trick test. It is an opportunity to shed more of our waste to make room for better things.
