Not Second Hand

steady

she held her ground. believing in who she was.
never offering an explanation.
and no one ever asked.

To live with personal fear is to deprive the self of an enhanced life experience.  By allowing fear to govern our life, we are self-containing our exuberance, gifts to the world, and creative spirit.  We too easily give in to someone else with the false sense that they are better or smarter.  Often we give up, knowing that we will lose the battle as usual.  We may appear to be silent, but inside we are screaming words of anger.

It is a surprise then, when we actually speak out and the world does not collapse around us. All of the time we have been repressing our voice has been more painful than stepping through the fear and speaking out.

We feel a sense of empowerment when we share ourselves with the world, as we are honoring our inner self.  Instead of having our energy repressed, it begins to flow, moving stagnant thoughts right along with it.  We begin to feel creative and alive once again.

All along, it has been our very self standing in our way.  We have made the story up that others are more worldly or educated; and therefore we 'should' remain still.  This gives us permission to stay small.  When we use discretion, choosing our time to share and stepping through fear, we become a contributor to our relationships and community.  We initiate an exchange and feel a part of the whole, rather than a second hand by stander.
