Time to Fly!

"When you walk to the edge of the light you have taken that first
step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe one of two
things will happen: There will be something solid for you
to stand upon, or you will be taught to fly."
Patrick Overton

Let's set aside the strict and restrictive resolutions carefully scripted for the New Year. In the place of serious rules, let's list a series of possibilities that are open to both expansion and diversion. Allow them to be from differing categories that will encompass all aspects of personal self.

Examples: 1. Explore Nature (visit state parks, bird watching class, ritual for sunset, discover new walking trails). 2. Deepen Conversations (listen to pod casts; take a class with same interest people; exchange with strangers). 3. Share Skills (teach grandkids, neighbors, or co-workers). 4. Learn to Align Outer Identity with Inner Yearnings.

Develop intentions to step outside of the comfort zone being open to what may appear or attract your attention. Be brave to wear the heart open offering kindness and compassion. Talk less and listen more. Intentions can flow together leading to inspiration that will impact a full New Year of honest living.

Beautiful and Painful Exploration

"When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and take
the first step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for you to stand upon or you will be taught to fly."

Alignment requires an equal balance of power/weakness; dark/light; and challenge/stress. We cannot fully appreciate one without the other. If we have nothing to contrast or compare dimensions fade and create false boundaries. It is important to know the edge of ice and the beginning of water or the tolerance of heat by the experience of cold.
Learning is delivered by contrasting and comparing the opposite ends of the spectrum. Limitations prevent us from exceeding into truly dangerous zones, but there are incidents where a person is called to step through barriers crossing over to the unexplored side.
Restrictions can keep us safe, but they also may prevent us from beautiful discovery. A frightened infant pushes out into the world to the expansive unknown. From that point forward beautiful and painful exploration works in tandem until against all odds, we forge through patterns. Overcoming debris and fear, we reach into a new realm and hopefully, fly!

Ironic Patterns

"When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and
take that first step into the darkness of the unknown, you
must believe that one of the two things will happen.
There will be something solid for you to stand upon or
you will be taught to fly."

It is ironic we spend so much time trying to grow up to be someone we are not and then spend years trying to undo who we have become.   Also, it is equally  ironic we flee the darkness striving towards light outside of us, only to return to the darkness to delve into our shadows.

Underneath every particle of the unknown, lays fear.  When we are frightened, we choose to live in the chaos rather than search for what will ultimately bring us comfort.   As an individual, we become stagnant, unstimulated, depressed and judgmental.   These elements will push against us until we finally step into what we fear ... the unknown.

When we find our lovely selves on the other side of fear, we shake our heads perplexed as to why we had waited so long.  We become alive again, interested in activities, stimulated by knowledge, and impacted by the wisdom of others.  From this stimulating platform of understanding, we close our eyes, push off , and fly to freedom.
