Beyond The Facade

"Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened
the figure of a free people. A nation does not have
to be cruel to be tough."
Franklin D. Roosevelt

Anticipating the celebration of halloween, I am reminded of of how adults are immediately drawn into child's play. Perhaps they have made special treats or surprise youngsters as they approach the door. Adults and children laugh together creating the sense of equal kindness. Uniqueness is praised and barriers easily dissipate.

These little ones hiding behind masks think they are unrecognizable, but adults see through the mask, recognizing perhaps their eyes. And isn't this true, that when we take the time to gaze beyond the facade, eyes into the soul stare right back at us? Taking our time to see into the heart of others generates compassion.

It is beneficial to look into the mirror, taking inventory of the image we are projecting. Is it a creative version of the self, freeing restrictions and welcoming life or is our mask stunted and out grown? Choosing to be an active participant in human kindness breeds peace in the seat of the soul.
