Nudge of Affection

"A little smile, a word of cheer.
A bit of love from someone near."
John Greenleaf Whittier

The cold temperatures and snow may have kept us a bit more isolated than we cared to be. Being somewhat captive, we may have had too much time on our hands and find ourselves dangerously back sliding into hurtful history. It is important to remedy unwanted thoughts as soon as possible.

There are options: call a trusted friend, go for a brisk walk, or scream into a nice soft pillow. Whatever it takes, release pent up feelings. When we mingle with people whether at gatherings, or services, we may still experience a sense of loneliness. Acknowledge how you feel and then choose an action to distract these inner thoughts.

Often times, it is easier to find release in the midst of strangers than long trusted friends. Responding to a smile, a simple courteous gesture, or laughing at the antics of a young child, heaviness lifts. Give permission to the self for embracing human kindness. Each and every one of us contains a beating heart that needs a small nudge of affection.
