Out With The Old

"Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way,
ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future."
Deepak Chopra

Spring invites us to clean out gardens, bird baths, and flower pots.  Of course it makes sense to clean out the old before we plant the new.  Hours are spent eliminating debris from plots of land. We scrub the bird bath so it will be more inviting to our flying friends.  We want new seeds to be in rich soil and not dried out dirt from last year.

All of this takes time and commitment.  We become dedicated every spring to clean out and refurbish. This is not so with our emotional makeup.  We read an inspiring article or self-help book expecting to change instantly.  What we learn in the time reading, unfortunately evaporates within a brief period of time.

With new growth, weeds must be extracted with a cleansing of the space.  We begin with new intentions stimulated by hope for change.  Positive action will propel us further into a future of new discovery and insight.  If we believe we can only be comfortable in our present, we will held prisoner by our outgrown ways.
