Colorful Harmony
"Music may start with a melody, but harmony is what gives it color. Harmony has many functions to
'add clothing' to a piece of music, to give music more depth, to echo or complement a melody line,
or just provide a grounded accompaniment beneath a melody."
THE INTELLECTUAL DEVOTIONAL
David S. Kidder and Noah D. Oppenheim
We have our own music, our individual tune or beat of our personal drummer. The music we create can be deepened through experiences in relationships. While sharing time with others, we exchange sounds or vibrations often joining our melody giving it a deeper resonance. The result is harmony.
We not only carry our own stress, but we also pick up residue of the stress of others, even if they are unknown to us ... the grouchy bus driver, the angry co-worker, or the acceleration of the noise surrounding us. We can learn to tune out these disturbing factors and connect more deeply with the melody building within us. We visualize our music vibrating around our core, making us less vulnerable to what sounds like noise from others. So ultimately, we do choose what will give us more depth.
Harmony is created over a period of time by selecting friends who deepen us or complement us.
We spend time with individuals who inspire or ground us, helping us maintain a stronger sense of harmony. When we feel agitated or out of tune, we can explore what no longer supports our composure. We can edit and experiment, creating a perfect supportive and colorful harmony.
