Distraction

"Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body."
Joseph Addison

When is the last time you read something on your favorite subject? Time passes and new information is added which may be quite stimulating. You may find yourself reinvested in topics that have become stagnant. We may also be surprised to discover that our opinions on the subject may have shifted.

We are living in a period of great change addled by heightened activities. The more we try to stop dwelling on things we cannot change, the more obsessive we can become. Getting lost in a book is a perfect way to distract yourself. It entertains the brain while allowing your nervous system a well-deserved rest.

During this frigid weather, we may have less exposure to others. We can begin to feel captive, shut off or isolated. Maybe it is time to explore plans for an imaginary vacation. Research scenarios where there is sunshine and entertainment. Rearrange a room, decluttering as you go. Then end the day with a very favorite book!
